Summer 2025 Weaving Survey
June 14, July 12, and August 9
Guild Members and non-members are welcome to join the Jacksonville Weavers' Guild for a summer survey of weaving. The overview of weaving principles and practical application will be presented in three parts, from 10 am to Noon, the second Saturday of the months of June, July and August at the Fort Caroline Community Center, 4131 Ferber Road.
Registration is $50 and includes the Deb Chandler's Book – Learning to Weave. For current guild members with the book, registration will be reduced to $30. All sessions will include hands-on and classroom instruction.
The First session (June 14) will include weaving vocabulary, an introduction of Chandler’s book, and show different types of looms and simple weaving techniques. Looms that will be ready to weave will include a floor loom, a frame loom, a rigid heddle loom, an inkle loom and a kumihimo loom. Attendees will be able to weave at each loom, round robin style.
The Second session (July 12) is on warping and dressing the loom--a floor loom, a rigid heddle, and inkle looms. Instruction is provided by gracious volunteers.
The Third Session (August 9) will cover planning a project and include calculating the amount of yarn needed for the warp and weft, measuring and chaining the warp, and how to read a draft so you will know what you are looking at when you see one.
Our hope is to provide a broad overview giving interested parties a chance to pursue the art.
Please register by contacting Lorie Harlow via the form below.
Hope to see you there! Lorie
